Private families have only been allowed to rent out rooms in their home, legally, since Cuba's 2011 reforms.
- These home-based rooms are called "casa particulares" and come with a typically huge breakfast including fruit, coffee, toast and eggs. You will find that each casa dishes up their own unique style of breakfast. - Some families also offer delicious home-cooked dinners for an additional cost. - Room rates range between CUC30 and CUC35 per night (which is approximately equivalent to US $30 - US $35) - Fun fact: Cuba grows its own coffee plants which perk into a delicious local java. AirBnB now taps into many of the casa particulares, however when I visited in early 2016 they only allowed Americans to book through their site.
