You may not think of Africa for snow and ice, but think again. Uganda's Rwenzori Mountains host the continent's third highest peak, Margherita Peak.

If you seek a challenging, multi-day trek that covers mind-boggling terrain and tests your physical endurance, this may be the excursion for you.
Tour Operator: Rwenzori Trekking is a well-run organization with highly trained local guides. When we trekked in 2014, the guides planned a trip to Nepal for further training with a Swiss mountain guide.

Duration: Nine+ days

Most Useful Tip: Bring comfortable rubber boots. This track is wet and boggy. We hiked for seven of the nine days in rubber boots.

Post-Tour Relaxation: Chill out at the ultra-comfortable Kyaninga Lodge for delicious food and short walks if you have any energy left.
More details on this trekking experience and other unique hikes around the world are found in Dust in My Pack, available at most online bookstores.
